Sucking up CO2

Founded: 2022

Waste disposal that trashes CO2.

Big Picture

The U.S. produces 400M tons of solid organic waste annually. That’s a whole lot of sewage, food scraps, and agricultural waste to get rid of. Where does it end up? Unfortunately, today that waste is dumped into landfills, waterways, and even farms, where it seeps dangerous chemicals like PFAS into soils and groundwater, while emitting millions of tons of methane into the atmosphere. Gross.

How it Works

Vaulted injects biosolid waste into secure wells a mile-plus underground, deep below any groundwater sources. Their proprietary biomass slurry injection technology traps waste and the carbon within it for millions of years. So, this is not only the cleanest and cheapest way for cities to dispose of wet waste, it’s also one that holds the potential to remove hundreds of millions of tons of carbon each year.

Unfair Advantage

Vaulted adapted technology that has already been proven in thousands of wells for oilfield waste. To this know-how, they add deep geological expertise and advanced monitoring that enables injection with minimal waste treatment. The result is a cost-effective solution for municipal-scale biosolids injection. This puts Vaulted on track to efficiently remove gigatons of carbon while literally cleaning up the planet.
